food moments in san francisco

so, i am now in san francisco (i will repeat this until it is normal for me), the city of food and i have so far eaten worth a month of morning pastries, midday snacks, lunches and dinners and everything in between.

here are a few memorable food moments (I repeat a few, not all at all):

a prosciutto sandwich you eat strolling on valencia at the italian grocery on corner of valencia and 22nd streets called lucca ravioli: http://www.luccaravioli.com/index.html

a $14 steak (one slice of steak) bought from the coolest butcher i have ever seen, grilled at home. from avedanos: http://www.avedanos.com/

although i did not actually eat anything (not the right moment then but will return), doing the tourist thing of eating crab or chowder soup from the side walk stands in the area of the fisherman's wharf seems like fun: http://www.yelp.com/biz/fishermans-wharf-chowder-and-crab-sidewalk-stands-san-francisco

eating at slanted door on our first trip to the pier in the ferry building down town, we found this vietnamese restaurant by chance and had no idea how popular it was, we were lucky to find a table and it was outside and the meal included mussels, a calamari stir fry and dumplings accompanied by a fine glass of white wine: http://slanteddoor.com/index.html

walking into the grocery shops in japan town.

walking into the indian shop on valencia street. immediate need to eat grilled paneer.

the best things happen at home sometimes. pizza 'ala shalfa'uneh by o. a cheddar cheese sandwich with blue cheese sprinkles, some green onion and slices of tomato, salt and flakes of pepper on toast in the oven. delicious!

fried eggs with potatoes and coriander--perfect. again by chef o. a lunch snack at home on labour day.

i am now looking for cooking classes in the city. might start with a knife skill class at the culinary salon with joe the chef: www.theculinarysalon.com

now, i am hungry again.
